Dr. Collins named acting associate dean

Dr. Collins joined the faculty in 1998 as an assistant professor of dental hygiene in the SchoolAllied Health Sciences and assistant professor of periodontics in the School of Dentistry. She has chaired the dental hygiene department since 2000 and is an associate professor in both schools as well as the School of Graduate Studies.

Dr. Collins has always been a strong and empathetic student advocate, said School of Allied Health Sciences Interim Dean W. Kent Guion. The dental hygiene department has consistently received high marks for community service, and students often comment about the sense of family within the program. Im sure these qualities will transfer and serve the school well.

Dr. Collins received the School of Dentistrys 2006 Outstanding Service Certificate and the Greenblatt Librarys 2005 Outstanding Faculty Award. She is an editorial review board member for the Journal of Dental Education and Journal of Dental Hygiene and is a consultant for the American Dental Associations Joint Commission on Dental Accreditation. She is a director of the annual Dental Hygiene Symposium, one of the nations largest continuing education programs for dental hygienists.

Dr. Collins earned a doctorate in educational administration from Georgia Southern University and masters and bachelors degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
